In case lecturers decide to use distance lessons, the following formats are available:
SYNCHRONOUS DISTANCE LEARNING (live streamed lectures in real time using Zoom)
Videoconference streaming with students connected from home with the possibility of screen-sharing. Zoom is the chosen video conference system.
ASYNCHRONOUS DISTANCE LEARNING (pre-recorded lectures available for viewing subsequently)
• Audio recording plus reading materials (e.g. slides in PDF format)
• Synchronized recording of audio and slides (webcast style)
• Audio recording plus viewing handwriting (for example using an i-Pad)
• Audio recording with video voice-over (e.g. software demo)
• Recording of the video lesson via Zoom
Recording with Zoom: the lesson is recorded IN LOCO by the lecturer and uploaded to their Moodle course using the media server Kaltura. Guidelines for using Kaltura are available via the following link.
BLENDED (with the teacher in the classroom and students attending synchronously whether classroom based or via distance learning)
In this case there may be three distinct types of teaching:
Blended learning type A
Classroom screening and remote transmission of audio and computer screen.
This method enables lecturers to share the following with students physically present or following online:
● the teacher’s voice
● the computer screen/personal device.
Blended learning type B
Audio-visual classroom transmission of lessons.
Classroom screening and remote transmission of the computer screen and video + audio of the lecturer. audio and screen.
This method enables teachers to share the following with students physically present or following online:
● both the voice and video of the lecturer
● the computer screen/personal device.
Blended learning type C
Audio-visual classroom transmission of lessons.
Classroom screening and remote transmission of the computer screen and video + audio of the lecturer as well as the classroom whiteboard/blackboard.
NB: this will be available from October 2020
This method enables teachers to share the following with students physically present or following online:
● the voice and video of the lecturer
● the computer screen/personal device
● the classroom whiteboard/blackboard and desk area.
Recording of blended lessons: the lecturer does NOT record the lesson in loco, but on a Zoom cloud. Due to space limitations on the Zoom cloud recordings will be permanently cancelled after 15 days. Lecturers are therefore kindly requested to download their videos as soon as possible.
Video-recorded lessons can be uploaded to the lecturer’s online course via the media server Kaltura which is integrated into Moodle. Guidelines for using Kaltura are available via the following link.
