ZOOM

Zoom is the cloud videoconferencing platform chosen and adopted by the University to manage video-lessons, webinars and virtual meetings requiring good audio-video quality and tools to manage participants and virtual rooms.

The University of Trento will grant a “full” licence to all academic and teaching staff with courses in Esse3. This enables lecturers to manage their own activities linked to each exam session and distance learning.

The full licence allows meetings of unlimited duration with up to 300 users connected at a given time.

Note that an active UniTrento mailbox is required in order to access the full licence.

For further information, please consult the following page.

To use the full licence, go to the following institutional webpage https://unitn.zoom.us where you can be identified by entering your university login details:

- begin by clicking “Sign in”

- the system then generates this message "Please check the Zoom invitation email and confirm the invitation before the SSO login"

- therefore you will receive a message via your University email account with a confirmation request before completing registration.

While assigning a full licence, the system may generate a message which appears contradictory inasmuch as it states that the functions might be reduced compared to a free licence; this is because the full licence has been configured at University level and not by an individual user, however, the University of Trento configuration grants the use of all the functions.

Should you decide to access Zoom via the App or official link at https://zoom.us you will be asked to select "Sign in with SSO" during login.

For further information, please consult the following page

Zoom can be used for both synchronous or asynchronous teaching and for blended lessons involving a lecturer in a classroom with students physically present while others follow online.  For further details please consult this page

Zoom for managing groups

Zoom lets you manage separate meeting rooms for groups, which are called Breakout Rooms. You can create up to 50 separate rooms for the same meeting.

Putting participants in Breakout Rooms can be done automatically or manually and at any point in the meeting. Participants in the Breakout Rooms can autonomously manage their audio, video and screenshare.

The teacher/host, once entered in a Breakout Room, shares their audio, video and screenshare with that room only. When recording, each participant or host that starts the recording will record the Breakout Room that they are working in.

This function is also available for the free version.

UniTrento Backgrounds for Zoom

You can find three different background images based on UniTrento visual identity under UniTrento Intranet ("Inforservizi").

The three models, made in spot color to optimize the visualization, can be used in distance learning sessions and/or in business meetings.

The models are standard and include the logo of the University and #iorestoacasa.

Zoom backgrounds can be modified from the Zoom Settings menu by choosing Virtual Background.
